Cooper's Rock State Park, WV

Almost Heaven. Cooper's Rock, West Virginia is filled with rich greenery, stunning overlooks, and days worth of adventure. We always knew John Denver was on to something.

The Overlook

Ever want to feel on top of the world? If you take the Roadside Trail or Rattlesnake Trail, you'll come across this breathtaking view. This is the perfect place to soak in the beauty of the West Virginia Wilderness.

Cooper's Rock Reservoir

The Clay Trail traverses through deep woods, along creeks, and leads to this view, Cooper's Rock Reservoir. A spot worthy enough to be our home page.

The Reserve Loop Trail connects the Clay Trail to the Roadside Trail. Use this spot as a resting spot during a long hike or as the dream nature destination.

For all those fisherman out there, this is a spot to try. We saw plenty of fish to go around. Otherwise, Messinger Lake is stocked trout waters. This spot can be reached following Glade Run Trail.

You may even find a friend along the way!

The Trails, Tips, and Tricks

We want to share what we learn in the forest. The trials and tribulations.

Black Bears

They're more scared of you than you are of them, but we want you safe. You should make noise often to alert them of your presence. If you see one, keep your distance. Finally, if one stumbles too close to you, get big and make loud noises to scare them off.

Snakes

Nature is beautiful but must be respected. Copperheads and Rattlesnakes exist in the forest. Learn their patterns and be wary of areas for them to bask in the sun.

Water

On our hikes, we carry portable water filters. They are perfect for on-the-go hydration. However, it was tough for us to get clean water sources in Cooper's Rock. Bring more water than you think you need.

Rock Climbing

There are tons of rock climbing faces in the forest. Look for some along the Rattlesnake Trail. Remember safe practices and always bring a friend!

Gear

We recommend boots for the mud, pants for the ticks, and water filters to hydrate.
